Most product people flirted with ChatGPT for a week or two, then stopped.
Why?
It wasnāt them giving them quality answers.
The problem?
They forgot that any interaction ChatGPT - any generative AI tool in fact - requires following this principle:
What does āGarbage in, garbage outā mean? It means that, if you ask it a generic, fluffy question, you will get a generic, fluffy answer.
For example, hereās the answer from ChatGPT if you ask it to ācome up with a good product strategy for a banking appā:
Sounds a bit like Revolut or Monzo to me?
A solid strategy, but lacking one thing:
Differentiation.
(Plus consideration for potential risks, for considerations of how to enter the market & gain some market share early on, or consideration of our constraints as a team & company).
A More Competition Product World Requires Transformative Product Strategy
We now operate in a world with 16x more competitors than their were just 10-11 years ago.
With the shift in generative AI that ChatGPT has engendered, it is only going to become easier & faster to launch great products. Not just using no-code tools & website builders, but code assistants that can dramatically increase speed of build.
That means competition will become even more fierce.
Add the fact that ~90% of products are estimated to fail, it is quite simply only getting harder to build something that 1) People want and 2) Are willing to pay enough for in order for your company to turn a profit.
That means we cannot stick with a product strategy that is not genuinely differentiated i.e. both unique in what we offer + actually valuable for our target market.
How to Craft a Differentiated Product Strategy With ChatGPT
Thatās where the ChatGPT Decision Tree can help.
A way to get useful insights from generative AI tools like ChatGPT.
How?
By following a principle of sequencing prompts in order to help ChatGPT build context over time, and, by doing so, provide us with more unique ideas & insights.
How does it work?
Itās unbelievably simple. Just follow each step of the decision tree & input the prompt in each green card along the journey.
Bold = part of the prompt.
Italic = a tip to follow.
Normal text = some text you need to customise within the prompt.
